Mac Hacks Part One
Macs are solid, easy to use computers. Even so, there is always room for improvement, and plenty of people online willing to share the ways they have hacked their Mac to make it better. Lucky us, as some of these Mac hacks have become essential tools in our technological life. I’ve combed the web for you, compiling a list of some of the best hacks out there. I’ve tried to give credit where credit is due, since these people have worked hard to create these tools for you. If you see a hack that is yours and you want credit, let me know so I can link to you and share the love.
Make Paper CD Labels with iTunes. This hack is written entirely in German. Somehow, even though it is written in another language, it is easy to figure out the hack by the illustrations and graphics. I’ve been making CD Labels for my mixed CDs all weekend. It’s addictive.
Create Custom iQuiz Data. Nice article, part tutorial, part hack, to let you fully enjoy the new iQuiz game.
Make Your Mac Mini A Portable Palmtop Device. For geeks on the move.
A Nifty Way to Code In Python on Mac OSX. This one is a little more hack than I need, but I know some of my readers are even more geektastic than I am, so this one’s for them.
Take your DJ skills to the next level with the iPod DJ Mixer hack. Cool tool for the music lover and technophile out there.
This hack tells you how to replace AppleScript with Ruby. I find AppleScript to be adequate for my use, but some of you may want to take it to the next level. This hack is for you.
Last but not least, have your Mac monitor your house. This tells you how to make your Mac alert you when mail is delivered, your family gets home, the coffee pot is left on, and more.
This is only the tip of the iceberg as far as hacking your Mac. If you have a hack you are proud of that makes using your Mac easier, faster, better or just more fun and interesting, send it to me by email here. I plan to do Mac Hack features sporadically throughout the year as they come my way.
