Get The Docx Conversion Widget
If you are a Mac user, then you know that half the reason Macs are so well protected against viruses is that they are choosy about what file formats to accept. Macro-filled document and spreadsheet files, exe files and docx files are all favorite hosts for hidden viruses. Half the time, the sender is a PC user who doesn’t even know he has the virus or spyware on his computer yet. So when your client or friend sends you those file types, many times you won’t be able to open them on a Mac.
What can you do? Never fear, Dashboard Widgets are here. For those of you using Tiger and above, you can grab this free dashboard widget: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/calculate_convert/docxconverter.html - It will give you a simple drag and drop mechanism for seeing the files people send to you. The file will be converted to html or txt in seconds flat.
Don’t have Tiger yet? Go to the web site, docx-converter.com and use their free conversion uploader. It isn’t as fast (you have to wait for your file to be emailed to you), but it is just as free and just as helpful. Happy downloading!
Online converter for the new Word 2007 default converter now includes support for: text alignment, bold, italic, underline, paragraphing, indentation, and Unicode characters. This update makes the converter less of a proof of concept and more of a usable application! (Source: Digg)
