Someone asked me where I got the idea for the theme for this blog. The answer is, “I didn’t”. I have nearly 30 blogs total, a few personal and several blogs for hire. I used to design my own themes for them, but as time wore on and i got more and more busy with the business of writing, I stopped having time to design every theme I use from the ground up.

These days, I design a handful of themes to keep in practice, but I just as frequently borrow an open source theme and use it as a springboard for my design ideas. This saves me time: instead of coding out every function I need on a blog plus doing the design, I can look for a theme that has the basic functionality I want and just tweak the design part instead of doing the whole thing.

It took ma a while to find a base theme for this blog, one that had all of the features I was looking for and a design I wanted to play with. It isn’t even done yet and I’m already getting compliments, so I know I chose wisely. The person who designed this theme had many, many more on his site as well. Not only that, he made himself available for any questions, unusual in a free theme creator.
