Apple Grrl

I must admit, I have sorely neglected AppleGrrl over the last many weeks. On one hand, being a great blogger and writer on my own blogs breeds success and writing gigs elsewhere. The down side of that is less time to write about what I care about on my own blogs. A vicious cycle resulting in some unplanned time away from AppleGrrl, WritersWell and BooksWithoutLimits. I’m hoping to be back to my normal garrulous self now, so sit back and read some Apple happenings:

I was happy to hear that an Apple Store was opening near me, junkie that I am. It is the largest in the country, no less, right in the heart of Boston, America’s most parking challenged city. I have half a mind to stick a camera or two out on the street to view the chaos that will ensue once the winter parking bans remove what little parking there is nearby for 6 - 9 months of the year.

I did a quickie review of some applications designed to make your calendar synching life easier over on Mac.Blorge recently, so if you are looking for a synch program, check it out.

I’ve been busy, and I remain busy, but I’m making a point not to neglect my blog babies any more just because I’ve got work going. If there are any topics you’d like covered, let me know.

Someone asked me where I got the idea for the theme for this blog. The answer is, “I didn’t”. I have nearly 30 blogs total, a few personal and several blogs for hire. I used to design my own themes for them, but as time wore on and i got more and more busy with the business of writing, I stopped having time to design every theme I use from the ground up.

In 2007 Daylight Savings Time (DST) gets a much needed and long overdue facelift. Hopefully, this is the first step in making things run on “Summertime time” all year long, but you should enjoy your extra weeks of daylight this year regardless.

As usual, Apple is on top of things, releasing nine OS upgrades and other fixes over the last few days to handle the change in DST and other needed fixes. If you missed the Security Upgrade or have it turned off in your browser, you might want to get it here.

If you had no idea DST was changing, you can read the official rules for the change here.

If you want the upgrade, just use your System Updater to grab them from any Mac OS 10.X and up. If you want the patches and upgrades for an older OS, like OS 9.2, you need to go to this link.

MacWorld has a nice write up of exactly what is fixed by the upgrades. You can read the entire article here. They also disclosed that the upgrades were in part spurred by Apple’s induction into the “month of bugs” club in a previous article.
